The project is conceived and directed by Rajeev Walia, produced by Suraj Kumar of Johnsons-Suraj Films International, sponsored by the National Rural Health Mission and the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry, and presented by Ratnakar Kumar, MD-Worldwide Records. The music for the album is composed by Nikhil Kamat and the songs are sung by Shankar Mahadevan, Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan, and Bandana Sharma. The lyrics are written by Manish Kumar Pran with additional lines from Vimal Kashyap.

The music video begins with Union Law minister Kapil Sibal reciting his poem comparing girls with boys. It is followed by the 'Betiyaan' song featuring well-known Bollywood Celebrities names like Hema Malini, Ajay Devgan, John Abraham, Sushmita Sen, Raveena Tandon, Shilpa Shetty, Sonakshi Sinha, Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan, Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy, and Bandana Sharma. The southern star Nagarjuna Akkineni joins the chorus too. In his brief speech Kapil Sibal squarely blamed men for the heavily skewed male-female sex ratio in the country and called for a change of attitude to save the girl child in a mother's womb. He felt that the skewed sex ratio gives rise to various social anomalies and mentioned in this regard the disturbing 'recent happenings' in Delhi, Mumbai, and elsewhere i.e. growing incidence of crime against women. He expressed confidence that the music album will create awareness about the seriousness of the issue among the people of India. Sunidhi Chauhan and Vivek Vaswani were among the prominent Bollywood faces seen at the launch function.
